FareShare Greater Manchester

FareShare Greater Manchester redistributes surplus food from the UK food industry to frontline charities, schools and community services who are helping people in need. We believe that no good food should go to waste.

Established by EMERGE 3Rs in 2008, FareShare Greater Manchester is a leading member of the UK’s longest running food redistribution charity, FareShare. It is one of a network of 24 similar centres located across the country who all exist to fight the same two issues: hunger and food waste.

Helping to tackle food poverty in Greater Manchester

FareShare Greater Manchester was the first FareShare centre to be established in the North West in 2008. Since then, we have given out over 10,000 tonnes of food to over 250 frontline charities, community services and schools. That’s equivalent to more than 23 million meals for those in food poverty across our city region.

Our plan to keep going

In 2020-21 FareShare Greater Manchester responded to COVID-19 by providing a record 3,406 tonnes of food to services responding to food insecurity across Greater Manchester and parts of East Cheshire. This equates to over 8 million meal portions.

At the height of Lockdown 1, over 50,000 people a week were accessing FareShare-provided food. The full impact of the pandemic is still unfolding with many individuals and families struggling to cope and facing uncertain futures.

Due to the continuing demand for our services, we are expanding FareShare Greater Manchester’s operations with the aim of achieving 7 million meals every year. Find out more about the campaign and our COVID response via the FareShare Greater Manchester website and YouTube channel.

EMERGE 3Rs

EMERGE 3Rs is a registered charity which promotes sustainable resource management through the 3Rs ethos of (‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’), aimed at reducing Manchester’s carbon footprint.  It is the parent charity under which sit three operating strands: EMERGE Recycling, Touch Wood and FareShare Greater Manchester.

“We owe a great deal to FareShare GM, without their support we would not have been able to grow our service, let alone sustain the numbers week on week. We are continuing providing food parcels with our current total at just over 6500 food parcels, supplied over the whole of Greater Manchester since March 2020. Thank you Fareshare!”

Adil, Planet Mercy UK

“Our partnership with FareShare Greater Manchester has enabled us to massively expand our community outreach at a time when it has never been more needed. With the continuous generous support from organisations like FareShare, we can continue to deliver help where people need it in ever increasingly challenging times. ”
