Other Things We Do

As well as our core activities, EMERGE 3Rs provides a huge amount of support to get other initiatives and campaigns off the ground to make the world a better place. Please contact us if you would like to collaborate on a new project.

Good Food Greater Manchester Partnership

EMERGE 3Rs supports the development of this important partnership which seeks to raise ‘Good Food’ up the agenda in the Greater Manchester city region. The issues are complex and interlinked – the impacts of food in relation to poverty and on our environment are often at odds with the opportunities arising from food production, retail and hospitality economically.

If we are to succeed in making our food systems more sustainable, it is our belief that a multi-agency and cross-sectoral approach is needed, both locally at grassroots and strategically involving a range of stakeholders. Only in this way will we be able to galvanise the resources to genuinely engage, inform and motivate the wider public in order to bring about positive changes.

Waste Audits

An EMERGE Waste Audit is a useful process for examining what materials and wastes are generated by your business. The service can range from a single day snapshot, to multiple strategic audits in which EMERGE studies the quantity and types of waste produced. The data gathered proves useful in reassessing waste costs and discovering resources that can be reclaimed instead of thrown away.

Events

Previous creative ‘3Rs’ accomplishments have included the “flowery piano” we reclaimed and planted up for the Manchester Jazz Festival, which received further acclaim thanks to Dig the City, Manchester’s Garden Festival. Huge thanks to Peter Davys of Orrest (photographed here) whose tenacity and carpentry skills pulled off this project.

Pop Up Shop

Thanks to support from CBRE and Prupim, and local upcycling craftswoman-come-entrepreneur, Lisa O’Brien, we ran a ‘Pop Up Shop’ in June 2013 in Manchester city centre. We were delighted to have this exciting opportunity to support many upcycling local arts and crafts-folk, who used a wide range of materials and skills to produce beautiful items and gifts. We also sold bric-a-brac, second-hand books, records, clothes and shoes plus our own Touch Wood products.

FareShare GM

EMERGE carries out the Greater Manchester operations of surplus food charity FareShare, which combines sustainability and humanitarian practices by redistributing overstocked donated fresh food to charities and community initiatives across the city region.

“I would recommend the EMERGE Waste Audit to any company serious about reducing their waste.”
